First, make full restitution for sin (1-9). Sin and purity are very serious matters before the LORD. Israelites with certain skin diseases or bodily discharges, or who had been near a dead body were all unclean. They were sent out of the camp so as not to defile it. Any wrong doing against another was also unfaithfulness to the LORD. Restitution was required and was the full value of the offense plus a fifth more. It was to be given to the wronged party or to the priests. A ram was also offered for atonement. Second, test for unfaithfulness (10-31). God gave detailed instructions about women suspected of adultery. A woman was not to be declared guilty based on her husband's suspicions. She was also not to be brought before an all-male court. Instead she was brought before the priest and thus, the LORD. God protected women with a process in which he himself would reveal the guilt. If she had sinned, she would not be able to bear children. Otherwise, she would be able to bear children and be cleared of guilt.
Application: Lord, you know all of our sin and unfaithfulness. Please cleanse and purify our hearts.
One Word: Do not take sin lightly
