First, the Spirit of wisdom and revelation (15-17). Paul gave thanks to God for the Ephesians, hearing about their faith and love. Yet he prays for them, asking again and again for two things: first, that God would give them the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that they might know God better. The Holy Spirit is given to us to help us know God and his Son Jesus better. Second, the eyes of your heart enlightened (18-23). His second prayer topic is that the eyes of their heart would be enlightened. The world around us can be dismal, due to the wages of sin and death. To see and understand spiritual things, to have God's vision, we need his enlightenment. Then we can have glorious hope in his heavenly kingdom. This hope in his calling, the riches of his glorious inheritance, and his incomparably great power are the blessed gifts to the church, the body of Christ.
Application: Lord, give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, and enlighten my heart to know you.
One Word: To know him better
