In this chapter, God shares his hope for the nations. God would destroy Gog, who represents all the evil and violence in the world. God would bring about their complete and total destruction. They would become a valley of the dead that people would bury. Also, birds of prey would devour them as a sacrifice for their sins. Hence, God would bring about the final justice for all the injustices in this world. His justice proves he is Holy God, and his holiness prevails over all the nations’ unrighteousness.
Then, God explains that he judged Israel for her rebellion and idol worship by sending her into exile. But in his compassion and for the glory of his holy name, he would restore his people and they would have a new Spirit to glorify him. They will live in peace and prosper. Then, all the nations would know that God is holy God, and he wants us to worship him in holiness and truth. Through our restored lives in Christ, we also testify to God’s holiness and his hope for all people.
Application: Father, “Holiness, holiness is what I long for. Holiness is what I need. Holiness is what you want from me.” (M. Stampley)
One Word: God’s hope for us is to reveal his holiness to the nations
