David experienced God's amazing deliverance during all his dangers. When he sings of the God of his salvation, he confesses that “the LORD is my rock, my fortress... my shield and the horn of salvation... my stronghold, my refuge…” (2-3). Through his personal experience with God, David came to know God personally and began to trust him more. Amid life-threatening dangers, he felt that the waves of death swirled around him; the cords of the grave coiled around him. In helpless situations, David cried out to God, and God heard his cry and saved him from all his enemies.
David poetically describes God’s mighty hand in the awesome displays of nature (8-16). David testifies that God who rescued him is the same Almighty God who controls the forces of nature. God shakes the earth with earthquakes. He displays his wrath and glory in the lightning, thunder, raging storms, and volcanic eruptions. David’s enemies were too strong for him, but God rescued him and led him to safe and secure places. It was God’s mercy upon him. This Almighty God hears and answers our prayer in need. Our merciful God rescues all his children who call on him. Indeed, God is the horn of our salvation. Praise the LORD!
