Pharaoh was like a powerful lion or a great sea monster, but the Lord was going to capture Pharaoh and snuff him out. His demise would be troubling and appalling to many because Pharaoh was a symbol of earthly power and strength for so long. God was going to use Babylon’s might to make Egypt desolate. Seeing the great nation fall was terrifying, and many nations would lament. But God is the Sovereign Lord. He is the sole ruler of heaven and earth, the only one who is worthy of our worship. Earthly rulers may appear great, but God is in control.

Egypt had been a powerful nation, but they would go down to the depths with the uncircumcised. Egypt never respected the Lord. They were like Assyria, Elam and the other nations who often harassed God’s people. They had terrorized the land of the living, but in the end, they would suffer God’s judgment.
Application: Lord, help me not to be shaken because of the rulers of this world, but be mindful of your rule over all things.
