God commanded Ezekiel to prophesy against Egypt and her allies. Their day of judgment was near. Just as Egypt would suffer God’s wrath, so the nations that helped her would be crushed. God promised to bring Nebuchadnezzar to lay waste to the land, destroying their idols and princes. Egypt was the strength of the region, but the Lord was about to lay waste to the cities of Egypt because of their pride. The great nation would be carried off into captivity as punishment.
Pharaoh was the strong king of Egypt. God prophesied through Ezekiel that he had broken the arm—broken the strength—of the Egyptian leader. He would strengthen the arms of the Babylonian king. Egypt was once the pride of the region, with many allies depending on her strength for their protection. But they were a thorn in Israel’s side. The Lord would make himself known by scattering the Egyptians among the nations.
Application: Lord, you are my strength. Bless me to depend on the arm of the Lord in my weakness.
One Word: God is my strength
