The Lord made Ezekiel to prophesy against Pharaoh and all Egypt. Pharaoh was likened to a great sea monster that ruled the Nile. The Lord was going to humble Pharaoh. The people of Israel, though they were enslaved 400 years in Egypt, still leaned on Egypt for help. Egypt was not their benefactor. The Lord would bring desolation on Egypt for forty years. Later he would gather them, but Egypt would never be a strong nation again, nor a source of confidence for God’s people. The Lord wants his people to seek him alone for help.
King Nebuchadnezzar fought against Tyre, but he received no reward. Now the Lord would reward his efforts by handing over Egypt to be plundered. The Lord used Babylon as his instrument of judgment against Egypt. Then he promised to raise up a horn of strength for the Israelites. This horn is a promise of the Messiah that God would raise up to save his people. Only God is our help in this world.
Application: Lord, you are my only source of confidence. You are my help in a sinful world. Teach me to depend on you only.
One Word: Turn to the Lord for help
