God then goes on to judge the false prophets who made the heart of the righteous sad and strengthened the hands of the wicked (22). They are like the thieves that kill and destroy the sheep (John 10). God promises his protection over his people from the false prophets (23).

Though we do not rely on prophets to interpret current events anymore, there are many false ideas that defy the gospel message, tempting us to follow our feelings and wants, rather than to follow Jesus as his disciples. We must enter through the narrow gate that leads to eternal life (Matthew 7:13-14); God will surely judge such false prophets and protect us from them.
Application: Father, thank you for promising to save me from those who defy the gospel truth. Help me to follow Jesus’ words of life and help others to be saved, too.
