DAVID SPARES SAUL A SECOND TIME

Date : Jul 24, 2024
Passage : 1Samuel 26:1~25
Keyverse : 23

The Ziphtes reported David’s whereabouts to Saul once again (Ch 24), and Saul brought his selected three thousand soldiers to hunt David. This time, David went to Saul’s camp at night to spy it out. He was with his nephew Abishai.

God went ahead of them and put Saul and his troops into deep sleep (12). Abishai saw this as a God-given opportunity to eliminate the enemy Saul and volunteered to kill him. However, David once again remembered the sovereign God. Even though Saul did not deserve the honor, David honored God, who anointed him, and chose to do the right thing – to leave the judgment to God.

Instead of cutting off Saul’s head, David took his spear and water jug. David then went away to the hill in the distance and called Saul. Saul was ashamed to realize his sin (21) and returned home. David did not trust Saul but trusted God, who would reward the righteous and faithful. Are you weary because of the struggles you face each day? Are you tired of the endless torment of your enemies? Trust in the Lord, who faithfully guides and rewards you for your faith in him (Psalm 63).
Application: Father, you are my answer and reward. Help me to trust in your righteous judgment in your perfect timing and choose to do what is right even in my struggles.
One Word: The Lord rewards and delivers his servants.
