TURN TO THE LORD TODAY

Date : Jun 03, 2024
Passage : 1Samuel 12:1~25
Keyverse : 24

After God had given his people victory over the Ammonites, Samuel addressed the people. Samuel had judged with impeccable integrity (5) and faithfulness (23). He reminded the people how the LORD had brought them out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. Though they forgot about God and suffered under enemies, God repeatedly heard their cries for help. He raised new judges. God did this to show his people that he was their king.

Who would lead the people next? Samuel was old. His sons were corrupt. The Israelites asked for a king instead of accepting God as their king. Then God sent thunder and rain to confirm that 1) he was still LORD, 2) Saul was his chosen king, and 3) the people’s request was evil.

The people were frightened but Samuel reassured them. They must turn from idols. God gave them an opportunity to repent and trust him. God was pleased to make them his people (22). They must fear the LORD, serve him faithfully, and remember what he has done.

Do not hang on to past unfaithfulness and sin. The LORD is pleased to make us his people through Jesus Christ. Fear the LORD, serve him, and consider all he has done for you.
Application: Father, please forgive our unfaithfulness and idolatry. Help us to serve you newly today.
One Word: Turn away from idols to the LORD
