HE WAS LOST AND IS FOUND

Date : Sep 16, 2023
Passage : Luke 15:11~32
Keyverse : 32

The younger son demanded his share of the estate from his wealthy father, went off to a distant country, and spent the wealth in wild living. Soon, he became penniless and friendless. To survive, he took a job feeding pigs, but his own stomach went unfilled. After hitting rock bottom, the son came back to his senses, acknowledged his sin, and went back to his father. The father, who gazed at the horizon every day, saw his returning son. Filled with compassion, the father ran to his son, welcomed him, and threw a party. Sin clouds our mind's eye, distorting our view of our Father God, who loves us, protects us, and provides for us. Sin separates us from our God and our family. Sin takes away joy, peace, real freedom, and rest. Sin brings guilt, regret, and misery. But God waits for us to come back to him. He welcomes us with his unconditional love, no matter how far we stray from him.

The elder son thought he was the good son. He worked hard to obey his father. He never ran away with the inheritance money. But when his brother got a homecoming party, the older son became angry and jealous. Like a Pharisee, the older son was self-righteous, proud, and bitter. He didn't know himself and his father. To live by faith is to know who God is and who we are. When we know God intimately as our Father, we can see who we are. We can live as thankful children of God.
