ARISE, SHINE, FOR YOUR LIGHT HAS COME

Date : Dec 03, 2022
Passage : Isaiah 60:1~22
Keyverse : 1

When God's glory departed from the temple due to his people's sins (Eze 10:18), Zion became desolate. Darkness covered the land until her sin was paid for. In a world covered by thick darkness, the prophet saw a light shining on his people and the glory of God resting on them with the coming of the Redeemer. Now, God's people must rise and shine this light, too. Then all people of all nations may be drawn to Zion with offerings to worship the LORD, the Holy One of Israel. Zion would be given honor and splendor as light dawns in her and spreads to all nations (2:2-3). God shines his light on us so we can be lights in a dark world.

Zion will be called the City of the LORD: a city prepared for the people redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. The walls of the city are named "Salvation" and its gates "Praise." Its gates are always open. Peace and righteousness will rule its residents. There will no longer be sun or moon, for "the LORD will be her everlasting light;" the days of sorrow will end. There will be no more death or pain or curses. This vision is beyond our earthly hope. Zion is the kingdom of God coming down from heaven, a city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God (Heb 11:10). In its time God will do this swiftly (22). Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

Application: Lord, thank you for the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ. Help me to shine the light of the gospel to the ends of the earth.
One Word: Arise and shine!
