A BLESSING AND A CURSE

Date : Mar 16, 2017
Passage : Deuteronomy 11:1~32
Keyverse : 26

1. So that you may have strength (1-12)

The Israelites saw with their own eyes how God delivered them from Egypt to this place, the Jordan crossing. They were guided by the Lord in a pillar of cloud and fire as they made their way through the desert. God was training them every day to depend on him and follow him. When they did, they were strong enough to claim his promise. It is God himself who is almighty, and he is the sole source of strength. We claim his promises when we follow him and obey his commands with trust. Then we have strength, because we have the Lord himself.

2. The land the Lord is giving you (13-32)

The land they were about to cross the Jordan to possess was the gift of God. The people of Israel could maintain that blessing when they obeyed the Lord. He is the one who sent rain; he is the one who would dispossess strong nations before them. They only needed to serve and love him only, obeying his commands and decrees. The Lord set before his people a blessing if they obeyed, but a curse if they disobeyed and followed other gods. Following the Lord in obedience is choosing to be blessed.

Application: Lord, give me strength to claim your promise and inherit your blessing.
One Word: Obey the Lord; choose blessing
