I HAVE PUT MY HOPE IN YOUR WORD

Date : Aug 31, 2022
Passage : Psalm 119:113~136
Keyverse : 114

(113-120) God discards wicked evildoers like dross (molten scum). So the psalmist also wanted nothing to do with wicked people. Rather, he loved God's law. One repeated phrase in this psalm is, "I have put my hope in your word" (43,74,81). He prayed, "Sustain me…Uphold me." God was his refuge and shield. He stood in awesome fear of God.

(121-128) The psalmist cries out for deliverance and salvation from his oppressors. He stands in God's word and God's love and expects God to act. He loves God's commands and hates every wrong path.

(129-136) He calls God's word "wonderful." So he delights to obey. His prayers are: turn to me and have mercy on me; direct my footsteps; redeem me from oppression; make your face shine on your servant; teach me your decrees. His joy turns to sorrow when he sees God's law disobeyed.

Application: LORD, you are our refuge and shield. We have put our hope in your word and your love. Uphold us in the truth of your word and strengthen us to turn from every wrong path. Forgive us when we fail. In Jesus' name. Amen.
One Word: I have put my hope in your word and in your love
