1. You should be sanctified (1-8)
By the authority of the Lord Jesus, the apostles had instructed the Thessalonians about pleasing God. Now they urged them ever more to obey these instructions. God's will for them was to be sanctified, which included avoiding sexual immorality. They were to control their own bodies. They were to be honorable and holy toward their brothers and sisters and themselves. God will punish those who continue to live in passionate lust. God still calls us today to live a pure and holy life.
2. Love each other even more (9-12)
The Thessalonians were urged to love one another more and more. Loving others was something very practical. They were not to be busybodies, gossips and a burden on others. Instead they were to live a quiet life, mind their own business and work with their hands. This was the apostles' own example. Such a lifestyle would leave no room for criticism but could win the respect of outsiders.
