This is a festival psalm that begins with praising God (1-4). The LORD heard their call in distress and rescued them from slavery in Egypt (5-7). Now they must listen to what God commanded them! (8) They must have no other gods. God promised to provide for them if they followed his voice.
There was a problem: God's people would not listen to him (11). So God gave them over to their stubborn hearts and their own ideas (12). If God's people would only listen to him, he would not only defeat their enemies, but he would also satisfy them with the best blessings (13-16).
How about us? God is worthy of our praise and obedience, for he has delivered us again and again from our sins and condemnation. We too must remember and listen and obey the Lord in love.
Application: Lord, you have delivered us from sin and the judgment we deserve. You are indeed worthy of our love, praise and obedience. I thank and praise you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
One Word: Listen and obey the Lord in thankfulness and love
