IN THE LORD I TAKE REFUGE

Date : Feb 16, 2021
Passage : Psalm 11:1~7
Keyverse : 1a

1. What can the righteous do? (1-3)

David seeks refuge in the LORD as a principle of life. But his faint-hearted counselors urge him to flee from his enemies who are closing in on him and ready to shoot their arrows at him. In despair they say, 'When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?' What can we do when the moral and spiritual foundations in our nation crumble? In fear and for safety, flee or compromise or stand firmly on the truth?

2. The LORD is righteous (4-7)

Instead of having fear and despair, David sees the living God who is in perfect control over the world. He knows that God observes everyone. God knows every thought and sees every action. God first tests (ESV) the righteous and the wicked. Then he will rain the shower of wrath upon the wicked. But the righteous God loves justice and welcomes the godly to his presence. For David, trusting God is the safest way rather than fleeing in fear and hopelessness. Considering who God is, we are to take refuge in the LORD and will see his face in the end.

Application: Lord, when the foundations are being destroyed, help us to have a fresh view of you who sees all things and judges the wicked and enables the upright to see your face
One Word: The upright will see his face
