1. He sought God; God gave him success (1-15)
King Uzziah was instructed in the fear of God. When he sought God, God gave him success and made him powerful. He had a well-trained, well-fortified army and fortress. He won battles. He had fruitful flocks and crops. His fame spread as far as Egypt.
2. Pride led to his downfall (16-23)
After Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to God and wanted to burn incense at the temple, which was lawful only for priests to do. The priests rebuked him: it is not right, you are being unfaithful, God will not honor you, and you must leave the sanctuary. When he became angry, the LORD suddenly afflicted him with leprosy. He lived in a separate house, banned from the temple until he died.
Application: Lord, I seek you. Keep me from pride. In Jesus' name.
One Word: Seek the Lord faithfully.
