1. King Ahab's request (1-5)
When King Ahab of Israel asked Jehoshaphat to go out with him against Ramoth Gilead, Jehoshaphat was willing to do so, but advised godly counsel. Whatever endeavors we aspire to do, big or small, it is always a good idea to first seek godly counsel through sincere prayer and advice.
2. The truth is not always what we like (6-11)
Jehoshaphat was wary of the false prophets of Israel and wanted to hear from a prophet of the LORD. There was one prophet, Micaiah, but Ahab hated him because he always spoke the truth regarding Ahab's ominous future. Although it may be hard to bear, a harsh truth is better than a sweet sounding lie.
Application: Lord, we are bombarded by loud opinions, sweet-sounding political agendas and enticing advertisements which all cloud our judgment, but may we seek you with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and follow your ways.
One Word: Seek the counsel of the LORD.
