1. The land was at peace (1-8)
Asa succeeded Abijah as the next king of Judah. For the first ten years of his reign, the land was at peace. He built up fortified cities. He put in walls, bars and towers. His military was vast and strong. But the true source of peace in the nation was the LORD. Asa sought God, doing what was right in his eyes. He removed the places of idol worship and smashed the idols. He commanded the people to seek God by obeying his laws and commands. Peace and prosperity from the LORD came when every level of society sought God.
2. Asa called to the LORD his God (9-15)
After ten years, the nation of Cush invaded Judah. Asa marched out against them. He did not depend on his army. He humbly called on the LORD his God and relied on Him. Asa fought for the name of the LORD. God gave complete victory to his people. Our God helps the powerless and gives victory to those who seek him.
Application: LORD, there is no one like you. We are powerless against spiritual enemies, but you prevail against them. We seek you with all our hearts. Please give us the rest that only Jesus gives.
