1. 'As for us, the LORD is our God' (1-12)
King Abijah led four hundred thousand able soldiers to face King Jeroboam and twice as many able troops. Though Jeroboam's rebellion eighteen years before was allowed by God, the kingship still belonged to David's line according to God's covenant. Jeroboam's illegitimacy was most clearly seen when he drove out the Levites and set up his own religion. Abijah declared that the LORD was God of Judah though Israel had deserted God. God was Judah's leader and had led it into this battle. No matter the hardships or challenges we face, let us also declare that the LORD is our God.
2. God fought for those who relied on him (13-22)
While Abijah declared his faith in God, Jeroboam relied on what seems to be a brilliant military tactic. He set an ambush so that Abijah's troops were surrounded. But when the priests of Judah blew their trumpets and the men cried out, God delivered Israel into their hands. Judah was victorious because they relied on the LORD.
Application: Father, you are the LORD our God. We humbly rely on you this day. Please uphold your name and grant us victory.
One Word: Depend on God who gives victory
