1. Be openhanded and give generously (1-11)
The LORD is a God of blessing. He provided for the cancelling of debts among his people. He intended to bless them, and for this reason they can trust in his blessing, for he is the one who promised to give them the land as their inheritance. Those who live under God's rule are not ruled by greed or fear in the world. Being openhanded and generous is practical trust in the LORD who provides. His compassionate provision sustains his people in poverty and wealth.
2. You must let them go free (12-23)
The Israelites had been slaves, but God redeemed them and set them free. They were still influenced by the culture of their times. But God told them to set Hebrew slaves free after seven years and not to send them away empty-handed. They were also to set aside the firstborn of the flock and eat before the LORD.
Application: Lord, you are the blessing for me. Help me to be openhanded and generous, that I may learn the God of blessing, and that I may be a blessing.
One Word: The Lord God will bless you
