1. Allotting land east of the Jordan (12-20)
Moses gave the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half tribe of Manasseh the Amorite land east of the Jordan. But they were required to send their fighting men into battle until they conquered the whole Promised Land west of the Jordan (18). They couldn't rest until after God had given all their brothers victory.
2. Commission, encourage and strengthen (21-29)
Moses really wanted to enter the Promised Land. But God would only let Moses see it from afar. Instead, God told Moses to commission, encourage, and strengthen Joshua to lead the people to take the land by God's will and power. Sometimes we must fight on the front lines; sometimes we only get to see results from afar; sometimes our task is to commission, encourage, and strengthen others. Whatever God wants, God's will be done.
Application: Lord, your will is best. Help me to follow it humbly, thankfully, and sincerely. I have nothing to fear when I know you are fighting for me in Jesus' name.
One Word: Don't be afraid, God will fight for you
