1. The Lord’s prescribed way (1-15)
David’s first attempt to bring the Lord’s ark to Jerusalem ended in tragedy (13:10). The problem was he had not read the Bible to know God’s prescribed way to carry the ark. It was to be done by Levites and carried on poles (2; Ex 25:14; Nu 4:15). He confessed this sin publicly and told the Levites to consecrate themselves to bring the ark to the tent in Jerusalem. We must follow God’s word rather than our own ideas to serve the Lord.
2. They brought up the ark with rejoicing (16-29)
David assigned Levites as musicians to make a joyful sound in bringing up the ark to Jerusalem with rejoicing. Some Levites played bronze cymbals, lyres, or harps, or sang. Priests blew trumpets. Bulls and rams were sacrificed. David danced and celebrated this event, but his wife Michal despised him in her heart and lost God's blessing (2Sa 6:23).
Application: Lord, help me to follow your word ahead of my own idea, and rejoice in the good things you do.
One Word: Follow God’s word and rejoice
