Date : Apr 13, 2020
Passage : 1Chronicles 11:1~9
Keyverse : 2

1. David becomes king of Israel (1-3)

While Saul was still king, the prophet Samuel anointed David to be king at God’s command. But because of Saul's murderous jealousy, David lived as a fugitive. After Saul's death, there were some political fights between David and Saul’s line. David became king of Judah and ruled in Hebron for 7 years. Then the elders of Israel came to Hebron and asked David to be king of all Israel, according to God’s will and promise. David became their ruler and shepherd.

2. Jerusalem, the City of David (4-9)

Jerusalem was centered in the promised land. The Jebusites lived there thinking they were secure. David promised that whoever led the attack on Jerusalem would be commander-in-chief, and Joab did so. Jerusalem became the City of David, the capital. David became more and more powerful, because the Lord Almighty was with him.
