1. A parable of the kingdom (1-10)
Jesus was supported in his ministry by many women. Jesus often taught with parables, using memorable images to plant the kingdom of God in people's hearts. This parable was about a farmer who sowed seed on four types of ground. Only those who had spiritual ears could understand that it was about the kingdom of God, and about our heart's condition.
2. The interpretation (11-15)
The seed is the living Word of God, which has fruit-bearing power. However, some heart-soil is not a good environment. The path represents hard and unresponsive hearts. The rocky soil is like people who are enthusiastic at the beginning, but don't put down deeper roots to change their life with the Word. The thorny soil is those with busy minds, anxious hearts and worldly desires. But if we plow our heart soil by repentance, and retain the word in a noble heart, our lives will produce fruit that blesses the world.
