1. "What did you go to see?" (24-28)
After helping John, the Baptist's disciples, Jesus helped the people in the crowd to remember their original motive for going to see John. It was not to see someone living in a big palace or wearing fancy clothes, but to hear a prophet who revealed God's salvation. So they should not be surprised that John was suffering for the truth. Jesus praised John as the greatest man but promised that anyone who enters the kingdom of God will be greater than him.
2. Those who acknowledge God's way (29-35)
The people who had repented on hearing John the Baptist's teaching could understand God's way of revealing his salvation, and trust Jesus. Those who didn't repent were like people who would neither dance when a happy song was played nor mourn when a sad song was played. God can use different types of people to reveal his wisdom, but we need a humbled heart to receive it.
