1. A conspiracy against Daniel (1-9)
King Darius of Media-Persia appointed 120 governors and 3 administrators, including Daniel. The king wanted to appoint Daniel over them all. The other officials determined to destroy Daniel, out of jealousy and wickedness. But Daniel was too trustworthy, and neither corrupt nor negligent. So they persuaded the king to make a law that no one could pray to any god for one month, except to the king. Otherwise, they should be thrown to the lions.
2. Daniel's serious attitude toward prayer (10-15)
Did Daniel put his prayer life on hold for a month? No. He kept praying three times a day, giving thanks to his God, just like before. To Daniel, praying and worshiping God was more important than saving his life. His enemies knew this; they found him asking God for help and reported him to the king. The king tried hard to rescue Daniel, but he couldn't get around the edict he had made.
