1. The nations will be judged (1-16)
Joel has more to say about the day of the LORD. At the same time as Judah and Jerusalem are restored, God will gather the nations to the Valley of Jehoshaphat which is also called the valley of decision. Multitudes upon multitudes will be there in rebellion against God. They plan to make war against God, as if that were even possible. But this will not be a contest at all. When they arrive there, they will see the LORD seated in judgment. He will judge the nations and repay them for all the evil they have done to his people. The LORD will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem. His people, however, will find refuge and peace in Him.
2. God will bless his people (17-21)
What a joy the presence of God brings to his people! The people will know from all of this that the LORD dwells in Zion on his holy hill. And then the blessings for his people will overflow! Jerusalem will be made holy and will never be invaded again. The Promised Land will become a paradise with the mountains dripping new wine and the hills overflowing with milk. A fountain will flow from the LORD's house and water the valley of acacias. How wonderful and beautiful! The LORD dwells in Zion. Amen!
