First, respecting the sacred offerings (1-8). The priests must treat with respect the sacred consecrated offerings of Israel or else be cut off from the Lord's presence. A priest who was unclean could not serve or eat the offerings. He could become unclean by a skin disease, a bodily discharge, a corpse or a crawling unclean creature. The unclean priest had to bathe and be ritually clean again to serve as priest. Second, eating sacred offerings (9-16). A priest could die for treating God's service with contempt. No one outside a priest's family could eat the sacred offering; only a slave or child in his household could eat it. Unauthorized eaters had to make restitution, adding a fifth to it.
Application: Lord, you are holy but I so easily take this for granted, and I am so often too casual. Give me a proper attitude toward your holiness.
One Word: Holy service to a holy God
