1. Levites: set apart to lead worship (1-48)
God chose the tribe of Levi as his possession and Aaron's line as priests after delivering his people from Egypt (see Exodus). God's appointed them to take offer sacrifices for Israel and take care of the Tabernacle (Temple). David recognized the main task of worship and assigned one descendant from each of Levi's sons to serve all Israel as worship leaders: music, prayer, and maintaining the temple.
2. Aaron's priestly line (49-81)
But worship is in response to God's grace, revealed in the ministry of the priesthood: the sacrifice of atonement for our sins. Jesus is our high priest, and our perfect sacrifice, given once for all to atone for our sins: the shedding of his blood to be received by faith. Levites were given allotment throughout all Israel. As a royal priesthood, Jesus sends us out to the world as salt and light and to be shepherds. We present Christ as our salvation, and lead people to worship God in spirit and truth.
