1. A finger on the wall (1-9)
Belshazzar the last king of Babylon, which came to power under Nebuchadnezzar gave a great banquet to a thousand of his nobles, while Babylon was seized by Darius of Medes. The drunk king had no care for his people or God. He blasphemed the Lord God by using the gold and silver goblets from the temple. Meanwhile, he honored the idols of gold, silver, and stone. Then suddenly a finger appeared and wrote a mysterious message on the wall. The king was in a panic and terrified when no one could interpret it. It was from the living God to judge Babylon.
2. "I will read the writing" (10-21)
By the queen's recommendation, Daniel was brought in and asked with promise of the king's great reward. Daniel had no interest in the reward. But for God's sake, he gave the interpretation. Daniel began with a history lesson. He reminded the king of the Most High God. God deposed Nebuchadnezzar when he became proud. God restored him when he acknowledged the Most High God as the sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.
