1. Jehu anointed king of Israel (1-13)
God sets up kings and deposes them for his own purposes. A prophet anointed Jehu at Ramoth Gilead to be Israel's next king. Jehu's mission was to destroy Ahab's line and avenge the blood of the LORD's servants. Jesus Christ came as the Anointed One to destroy the devil's work. We are also anointed by the Holy Spirit not to kill people but to fight against sin, Satan and evil and to live as God's children.
2. Jehu's purge begins (14-37)
In 1 Kings 21, King Ahab and Queen Jezebel murdered Naboth to steal his vineyard. Then Elijah prophesied their tragic deaths (1Ki 21:19,23). Now, in this chapter, Jehu assassinates Ahab's son Joram who was king of Israel, Ahaziah king of Judah, who was related to Ahab, and Jezebel, the wicked queen mother in Israel. Very little was left of her even to bury when the dogs were done with her body.
