1. Elisha saves a young prophet from a crisis (1-8)
Many young men wanted to learn Elisha's spirit and imitate his shepherd life. So, they began to build a larger meeting place by the Jordan. One of them swung his axe too hard, the head came off, and it sank in the river. He had borrowed the axe and sought Elisha's help to do something. Elisha respected his sense of responsibility, threw a branch where it sunk, and the axehead miraculously came to the surface.
2. Elisha saves the nation from a crisis (9-23)
The king of Aram tried several times to attack Israel, but each time he was thwarted because Elisha warned the king of Israel. So the king of Aram sent his army to kill Elisha. In the morning, his servant saw an army of horses and chariots surrounding them and was afraid. Elisha told him not to be afraid and prayed for him to see the army of the Lord, which was much greater, protecting them. Miraculously, the Arameans were blinded, and Elisha led them to the king of Israel. Elisha advised the king to treat their enemies graciously to a feast and send them home.
