1. Two kings' responses to difficulties (1-12)
When Joram became king of Israel (1), Moab revolted against Israel (4). Joram asked Jehoshaphat king of Judah to help him (6,7), and Judah and Edom formed a three-way alliance to attack Moab through the Desert of Edom (8). After a roundabout march of seven days, the army had no more water for themselves or for the animals with them (9). At this moment, Joram complained, "Has the Lord called us three kings together only to deliver us into the hands of Moab?"(10) But Jehoshaphat was looking for a prophet of the Lord "through whom we may inquire of the Lord?"(11)
2. The way to get victory (13-27)
Elisha, the prophet of the Lord, saw Jehoshaphat's faith and he prophesied two things. First, "You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink." (17) Second, "He will also deliver Moab into your hands."(18) Elisha said, "This is an easy thing in the eyes of the Lord." By God's divine intervention, the three kings defeated Moab completely. God is the Creator of heaven and earth. He gives victory to those who seek him by faith!
