1. Why the sanctuary was desecrated (1-14)
God called Ezekiel to pay careful attention to the sanctuary, especially who may enter it. The rebellious Israelites treated it as common, even allowing uncircumcised people to manage it. Why did they do that? Their priests were unfaithful to God, wandered away, and made the people fall into sin. These unfaithful priests would bear the consequences of their sins.
2. Faithful priests teach God's way (15-31)
There were priests, descendants of Zadok, who guarded the temple. These priests were to minister in the sanctuary, keeping all the regulations carefully. Through faithful priests, the people may learn the difference between holy and common, clean and unclean, and the sanctuary of God - his dwelling with his people - will be maintained.
