1. "You harbored ancient hostility" (1-9)
As God carried out judgment against Israel, Edom saw this as their opportunity, and attacked their ancient foe, shedding their blood. God prophesied judgment against them: they would be killed and become desolate forever, revealing himself as the LORD. When God disciplines others for their sins, it is not the time to stir up ancient hostility and take advantage - God wants us to love and forgive.
2. "You boasted against me" (10-15)
Edom was counting two countries as their own (Israel and Judah), but did not acknowledge the LORD was there. Their boasting was not against people but God, and he would judge them for it. Sin is against God. His judgment against Edom is a warning for us to live before God humbly.
