1. They were cut to the heart (37-41)
The graceful work of the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin and our utter need of God's mercy. When the people heard Peter's message about Jesus' death and resurrection they were cut to the heart and asked, "What shall we do?" They were open to God. Peter helped them to personally repent of their sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus so that they could receive forgiveness from God and the gift of the Holy Spirit. About 3,000 were added to their number that day. Conviction of sin by the Holy Spirit is at the core of every spiritual revival.
2. Teaching, fellowship and prayer (42-47)
Just as these new believers had received Jesus, it was important that they continued to grow rooted in him. They did this by devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching, to loving fellowship and prayer. Their love of God and each other has been an example for every church community since then. Even the wider society was influenced by them.
