1. A second attack (22-30)
Israel had soundly defeated the Arameans. But Ben-Hadad wasn't going to give up. He mustered a huge army in one of the valleys. Ben-Hadad thought Israel's God was a god of the hills only, so they could easily defeat Israel in the valley. But the Lord is not just a god of any particular geographic area. He is God of all the heavens and the earth. The man of God spoke God's promise that they, Israel, would prevail in this battle. The Lord would deliver Ben-Hadad's vast army into their hands to show that He is the Lord.
2. A foolish decision (31-43)
After their defeat, Ben-Hadad went to Ahab and asked for mercy. Ahab received Ben-Hadad as his brother. While Ahab got the return of cities previously taken, and access to markets, he had neglected God's intention that Ben-Hadad should die. Ahab would pay with his own life.
