1. Disaster for the house of Jeroboam (1-13)
Jeroboam's son became ill. So the king sent his wife, in disguise, to the prophet Ahijah to discover what would happen to their son. The Lord had made Jeroboam king over Israel. But Jeroboam had done much evil, including setting up idol worship. So when his wife came in disguise, the Lord told the blind Ahijah who it was. The word of the Lord to Jeroboam was that he was guilty of much sin in Israel, and that he would be severely punished. Disaster would come to his house. Every male would be cut off, and his sick son, the only good one in the family, would die.
2. The Lord will strike Israel (14-20)
The whole nation would suffer for Jeroboam's sin. They would be struck by the Lord, and scattered to another land. The Lord would give Israel up. But He would not give up. He would raise up for Himself a king who would cut off the house of Jeroboam. Even in the midst of severe judgment by the Lord, there is always hope.
