GOD'S SECOND VISIT TO SOLOMON

Date : Jan 10, 2019
Passage : 1Kings 9:1~28
Keyverse : 2

1. Blessing and warning (1-9)

God had given to Solomon everything he could want and more. The temple and palace were completed. He achieved and had all he desired. Then God visited Solomon a second time. Solomon's achievements and wealth led him to a spiritual crossroads. If Solomon faithfully walked before God with integrity of heart, God would establish Solomon's throne forever. But if Solomon or his descendants turned away from God, God would reject the temple and cut off his people from the land. When God blesses, let's be faithful to him.

2. Solomon's dealings (10-28)

Both the temple and the palace were built with materials from a political alliance with the king of Tyre and with slave labor. In contrast, the Tabernacle had been built with freewill offerings and by those whom God chose. (Ex 35:21) The slave labor force was comprised of people whom God had warned could cause Israel to turn from him. (Dt. 7:1-6) Pharaoh's daughter is mentioned again. Solomon fulfilled his religious obligations, but his worldly methods mute their spiritual impact.

Application: Lord, thank you for all you have done. Please guard my heart against spiritual complacency.
One Word: Walk before God with integrity of heart
