1. A light has dawned (1-5)
Isaiah sees a time when gloom and distress will be gone. Though people walked in darkness, they will see a great light. God will enlarge the nation and he will increase the people's joy. People will rejoice as in the time of victory. This great light is Jesus whose ministry began in Galilee. He unburdens us from sin. He frees us from Satan's oppression. Wherever Jesus rules there is peace and all conflicts come to an end.
2. God gave us his Son Jesus (6-7)
Isaiah also sees how Jesus would come. He would come into our world as a child born to human parents. But he is not an ordinary child. He is God. He possesses all authority to rule over all mankind. Jesus is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. He fulfills God's promises to David. He rules with justice and righteousness forever.
