First, consecrate yourselves and be holy (1-8). This chapter warns of the severe consequence of violating God's laws: death. One who offered a child to an idol would be stoned to death by the community. Turning to psychics displeases God (6). God's people are to be holy, because God is holy. It is God who makes us holy. Second, 'set apart to be my own' (9-27). The death sentence applied for cursing one's parents. It also applied for the sexual sins already listed in chapter 18, which included perverse and improper sexual relations: adultery, incest, homosexuality, bestiality. God redeemed them from slavery and they belonged to God. Christ bought us with a price. We belong to him. So we are to honor him with our bodies (1Co 6:20).
Application: Lord, the wages of sin is death, which I deserve. Thank you for the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus. May I honor you with my body and soul.
One Word: I am redeemed and made holy to be His
