1. King David keeps his promise (28-40)
After David learned of Adonijah's plot and was reminded of his promise before the Lord, he took strong, decisive action. David declared Solomon would succeed him on the throne. He ordered Zadok and Nathan to immediately anoint Solomon king over Israel. The people were to shout, "Long live King Solomon!" King David ordered that Solomon was to ride his father's mule, a symbol of his father's favor and peaceful transition. God blessed David and his people.
2. Adonijah and his followers are dispersed (41-53)
Just as their feast was ending, Adonijah and his followers learned that Solomon had become the new, legitimate king. They all rose in fear and dispersed. Their lives were now in danger for attempting to usurp the throne. Adonijah grabbed the altar and begged for mercy. Solomon showed mercy but warned him not to do evil.
