1. God is the only one to turn to (1-10)
The Egyptians were full of pride. They felt that their nation would rise and cover the earth (8). But they were soundly defeated. This was before the first exile. And yet nations still put their trust in Egypt even though they had been previously defeated by the Babylonians at Carchemish. God humbled the Egyptian pride (10). Why did the Jews place their trust in weak Egypt and not in God?
2. Healing through the balm of Gilead (11-26)
Egypt was sick with pride and crushed by defeat. God showed the Egyptians where they should go for healing. They needed to get the balm of Gilead. They needed to find their healing in the God of the Jews. But instead they sought many other remedies, which proved all to be in vain.
