1. God's word will surely be fulfilled (1-10)
Finally, God's word was fulfilled. The Babylonians breached the walls. Zedekiah and his officials continued in their rebellion. They escaped the city and fled. They were eventually captured by the Babylonian army. King Zedekiah was treated cruelly and his sons and officials were executed. He was taken to Babylon without his eyes. It could have turned out much differently if the king accepted God's word and obeyed the Lord.
2. Trust in God's deliverance (11-18)
Despite of the fall of the city, Jeremiah and the Cushite were granted mercy. Jeremiah was not treated like the rest of his people. He was respected, released from house arrest and allowed to live among his people who remained with the appointed governor. Ebed-Melech was rescued and not handed over. His life was spared by God's grace. The Lord Almighty watches over his people.
