1. I revealed you to those you gave me (6-12)
Jesus prayed for his disciples. They were the ones chosen out of the world and given to Jesus. Jesus revealed God to them, and they accepted and obeyed his word. Jesus prayed for them that God would protect them. While he was among them, Jesus protected them and kept them safe. But he was leaving them to go to the Father. Jesus prayed that God would protect them with His name.
2. Sanctify them by the truth" (13-19)
Jesus' disciples would need God's protection. The world hated the disciples because of God's word. But Jesus didn't pray that they may have easy lives. He didn't pray that they could come with him to the Father. Instead, Jesus prayed for God's protection on them. Jesus sent them into a dangerous world that hated them. But they would be sanctified by God's word, and they would have the full measure of joy in them.
