1. Another advocate (15-24)
Those who love Jesus are told to keep his commands. If we keep his commands, we are promised a new advocate- the spirit of truth. Jesus was about to leave his disciples. They would no longer see him or be with him. But he would not leave them as orphans. He would send them the Holy Spirit. What would the Holy Spirit do? Through it, they would realize that Jesus is in the Father, that the Father is in him, and that Jesus was in the disciples. The same is true of us today. Jesus is in us when we love and obey him. We can show we love Jesus by keeping his commands.
2. Jesus gives us peace (25-31)
Jesus said many things to his disciples, especially as he got closer to leaving them. But the Holy Spirit, sent by the Father, would remind them of all these things. Because of Jesus' promise, they need not be afraid. Rather, they could have peace. Even though they had reason to fear- for the prince of this world (Satan) was coming- they could have peace.
