1. David recovered everything (16-22)
David and his men found the Amalekite raiding party reveling. He fought them for a day and recovered all their wives and children and goods. Nothing was missing. 400 men had fought with David. 200 had stayed behind, too exhausted. When David saw them, he asked them how they were. But all the evil troublemakers among David's men weren't happy. They said, "Don't give the 200 men any plunder, just their wives and children."
2. David's thankful generosity (23-31)
David overruled the troublemakers: "the LORD has given us...protected us and delivered into our hands the raiding party." David saw God's gracious hand with them and decided graciously that men who stayed with supplies should get the same as men who went to battle. All God's people are precious. David also generously sent to over 14 towns of Judah a gift from the plunder of the LORD's enemies.
