1. Don't hate but love! (11-15)
Cain hated his brother and murdered him because his brother was righteous while he was evil. Likewise the world will hate us, while we do right things. Anyone who hates a brother in his heart is a murderer and no murderer has eternal life but remains in death. So we should love one another. When we love each other, we know that we have passed from death to life.
2. As Jesus laid down his life... (16-24)
How can we love unlovely people? We must look at Jesus. He showed what is love by laying down his life for the unlovely sinners, the enemies of God. So we also ought to lay down our life for our brothers and sisters. We should begin with having pity on them and helping them when they are in need, not with lip services but with actions and in truth and prayers. When we believe in Jesus and love one another, the Holy Spirit remains in us.
